Greenskies Project Wins HelioVolta Quality Award for Rooftop Solar

A California rooftop array developed by Greenskies for a Fortune 100 retailer achieved the highest quality score of every rooftop system HelioVolta assessed in 2025, earning an A+ HelioVolta Quality Standard® rating.

HelioVolta named Greenskies Clean Energy, the project’s developer and owner, as the recipient of an inaugural HelioVolta Quality Standard (HQS®) Award for Best Rooftop PV System. Greenskies’ award-winning array demonstrates the best installation workmanship among all <5 MW commercial rooftop projects inspected by HelioVolta in 2025.

About the Project

Greenskies partnered with a national retailer to energize a California store with its award-winning 760 kW rooftop array. The project was built by Opulent Power Solutions LLC. Key technical specifications include:

  • Fixed tilt racking
  • Six string inverters
  • 1,422 high-performance PV modules

Why HelioVolta Issued This Award

Greenskies' Fortune 100 retail rooftop project achieved the highest score of all rooftop arrays assessed for an award. At a high level, the installation techniques used should minimize long-term maintenance requirements and ensure that O&M technicians can safely and efficiently service the array over time. The system not only meets HelioVolta's requirements for a defect-free installation but also demonstrates exemplary workmanship in several areas.

Labeling

Durable labels that include inverter and string location are present and visible on module frames. This goes beyond code requirements to ensure O&M teams can service the system efficiently.

Clearly visible labels facilitate efficient O&M work and support safe conditions for technicians onsite.

Wires are managed with care to ensure long-term reliability. Durable, protective products were selected to support conductors, ensuring that the system's cables are not exposed to environmental factors or sharp edges that can damage insulation over time.

PV jumpers between module rows are well-protected from UV exposure and other environmental factors that can accelerate degradation.
Tubing also insulates conductors against abrasion from durable metal straps that provide essential long-term support to the inter-row jumpers.

All field-made connectors are properly installed in accordance with manufacturer specifications, which ensures the efficient, safe, and reliable transfer of clean energy throughout the array, especially as it ages.

‍

Conduit

Conduit was carefully planned and precisely measured to minimize 90-degree bends, reducing the risk of moisture ingress that can compromise conductors over time.

All conduit is neat, tidy, and uniformly supported throughout the array with appropriate mounting hardware.

Enclosures

Enclosures throughout the site are properly installed and well-sealed, ensuring protection from rodents as well as environmental conditions such as moisture and debris that can compromise electrical components.

Inverters have balanced MPPTs, and caps are used for open terminals, which ensures that key equipment is safe from the potential ingress of debris and moisture.
Excellent wire termination workmanship was observed throughout the site, as shown in this distribution panel’s properly torqued and landed AC conductors.

Wire terminations are properly landed and torqued, which is vital to safe system operations and reliable energy production over time.

Why This Matters

None of the practices described above are exotic. They are the accumulation of many small decisions made correctly: a label that will still be legible in fifteen years, a conduit run measured to avoid an unnecessary bend, a terminal capped rather than left open. Each practice we highlight is minor individually, yet together they are the difference between an asset that performs as modeled for decades and one with unscheduled truck rolls, disputed warranty claims, and returns that fall short of expectations.

Congratulations to Greenskies Clean Energy and to Opulent Power Solutions LLC on building a system that sets the bar.

How Award Winners Are Selected

‍

Every project under 5 MWDC that HelioVolta inspected in 2025 was scored against our revamped HelioVolta Quality Standard®, a point-based workmanship benchmark presented on a familiar A–F scale. Each project begins with 1,000 points. Points are deducted according to the number, severity, and status of the issues HelioVolta documents during onsite inspections.

A low defect rate and A+ HQS rating qualifies a project, but does not win the award. The highest-scoring projects then undergo manual review by the HelioVolta engineering team to validate that they exhibit exemplary installation practices: these details distinguish a good build from an excellent one.
